Promotional Offer: Tech Editing for a Flat Fee!
I’m now offering technical and copy editing for a flat fee. This means when a designer submits a knitting pattern for a quote, the quote received is the MAXIMUM price the designer will pay for edits.
While editing your pattern, I will keep careful track of the time spent. If I spend LESS time editing your pattern than I estimated, your final price will be LESS THAN the quote you received. If I spend MORE time editing your pattern than I estimated, your final price will still be the SAME price you were originally quoted.
I will base the quote on the following information:
Garments:
Simple Garments — $37.50 - 1 to 3 sizes, no charts, standard construction; 1 1/2 to 2 hours
Medium Garments — $50.00 - 4 to 6 sizes, 1 chart, standard shaping and/or construction; 2 to 3 hours
Complex Garments — $75.00 - 7+ sizes, multiple charts, extensive or innovative shaping, techniques and/or construction; 3 hours & up
Accessories:
Simple Accessories — $12.50 - 1 size, no charts; 1/2 to 1 hour
Medium Accessories — $25.00 - 1 to 2 sizes, 1 chart, additional shaping and/or techniques; 1 to 2 hours
Complex Accessories — $50.00 - 3+ sizes, multiple charts, extensive shaping and/or techniques; 2 to 3 hours
For example, A designer sends me a simple, top-down sweater for editing. I quote a cost of $37.50 for the editing services. I’m assuming I can edit this pattern in about an hour and a half. In the end, I edit the pattern in an hour. I let the designer know the process took less time than I originally estimated, and I have lowered the cost on the invoice to $25.00 to reflect that. In the same scenario, if I take two hours to edit the pattern, I will still send the designer an invoice for $37.50 even though I took more time to edit the pattern than I originally estimated.
This flat fee package also includes proofreading the finalized version of the pattern! For example, you and I have been back and forth a few times reviewing and editing the pattern. We’re pretty sure all the mistakes have been taken care of! If this is the case, I will proofread the pattern one final time and let you know that it is ready for publication.
